Bad memory can cause anything from annoying error messages to complete system failures. Why risk it with cheap "mystery" memory? When you buy memory from Crucial, you're buying the same high-quality memory that leading computer manufacturers install in the systems they sell. In fact, because Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the world's largest DRAM manufacturers, chances are good that you have their memory in your system right now. While the "other guys" might claim to manufacture memory, they really just assemble modules out of chips made by someone else. Some don't have first-class assembly procedures, and some even use chips that failed to meet computer manufacturer's stringent testing requirements. Crucial memory goes through much more rigorous testing procedures than many other brands of memory. Some memory assemblers choose to accept a certain "defect rate" because it's cheaper to deal with returns than to test every part they sell. That may help their bottom line, but it's sure a pain in the neck if you're one of the customers who ends up with a bad module. That's why Crucial thoroughly tests EVERY module they sell and put their name only on the ones that meet their strict standards. You might expect memory this good to cost a lot more, but you'd be wrong. As an online memory upgrade provider selling directly from the manufacturer, Crucial memory is often available at lower prices than lower-quality modules.

Product was delivered swiftly. The price was great. And it was instantly recognized by my mac mini giving it a needed RAM boost.

 "No problems" 2008-08-27

Installled the memory without any problems on Mac Mini Intel 1.83 Core 2 Duo. The most complicated part of the set up is to open the box itself, the dismount of the antenna, and the seating of the RAM - make sure it snaps tight in place. The outer bank gives the impression that is seated properly, but if it does not snap in place the system can only see the first bank - I had to try this a couple of times before getting it right. A Mac Mini with Leopard and 1Gb is not very practical, Leopard should have at least 2. Highly recommended.

 "Not a good experience" 2008-03-24

After figuring out how to get at the memory in the MAC Mini I replaced the original equipment 1Gb of RAM with the matched pair. The machine would no longer boot. Unfortunately I was overly optimistic and had put the machine completely back together. I disassembled one more time and put the original memory back and the machine works flawlessly. I would suggest that if you want additional memory, order your machine configured that way.

 "Dead on arrival" 2008-02-29
By Charles Troy Tripp (Atlanta, GA USA)
I had never heard of Crucial before this purchase, and now I know why. Despite trying it about four times, my new Mac Mini would not boot up with this memory installed. The Mac would boot just fine with the factory memory, but the Crucial chips: nada. Swapping back to the factory memory, it works. Back to the Crucial, nothing.

My Mac is now running sweetly with the factory memory. This Crucial stuff is back in its box, waiting for a return.

--- Follow-up ---

I returned my memory for a full refund, and had the refund inside a week. So I have to give Crucial credit for customer service. Still can't recommend the product, though.
