Bad memory can cause anything from annoying error messages to complete system failures. Why risk it with cheap "mystery" memory? When you buy memory from Crucial, you're buying the same high-quality memory that leading computer manufacturers install in the systems they sell. In fact, because Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the world's largest DRAM manufacturers, chances are good that you have their memory in your system right now. While the "other guys" might claim to manufacture memory, they really just assemble modules out of chips made by someone else. Some don't have first-class assembly procedures, and some even use chips that failed to meet computer manufacturer's stringent testing requirements. Crucial memory goes through much more rigorous testing procedures than many other brands of memory. Some memory assemblers choose to accept a certain "defect rate" because it's cheaper to deal with returns than to test every part they sell. That may help their bottom line, but it's sure a pain in the neck if you're one of the customers who ends up with a bad module. That's why Crucial thoroughly tests EVERY module they sell and put their name only on the ones that meet their strict standards. You might expect memory this good to cost a lot more, but you'd be wrong. As an online memory upgrade provider selling directly from the manufacturer, Crucial memory is often available at lower prices than lower-quality modules.

Ballistix Tracer memory features a black PCB, black integrated heat spreaders, and two rows of eight "chasing" red and green LEDs atop the module, circulating at varying speeds proportional to usage. A custom-designed circuit relays bus activity to the LEDs, allowing them to accurately reflect usage of each memory module. In addition, eight blue ground effects LEDs emit a constant glow near the pins.

"Great if it was more reliable" 2008-07-05
By A. Wiersch (Lantana, TX USA (near Dallas))
I'm a computer programmer and buy a lot of computer hardware. I've probably RMA'd more than 12 sticks of Crucial Ballistix memory (both Tracer and non-Tracer) in the past 2 years. They all seem to eventually fail. They might work well for awhile and last a few months, but eventually they seem to fail and need to be RMA'd. I don't overclock the memory and other brands of RAM don't have this problem. Too bad because the LEDs are nice. I recommend another brand like OCZ, G.SKILL, or Corsair.

"Pleased with memory module so far." 2007-01-11

I installed this memory module using an anti-static wrist strap properly grounded, thus eliminating any possible static electricity discharge that may damage the memory module. So far I have had no system problems due to this module, and since it's a mac with OS X, there are few problems in any case.

"I'm thrilled with this purchase" 2009-12-10
By Terri (Milwaukee, WI)
My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop had been running extremely slow lately and no amount of "cleaning up" would help. I started thinking about buying a new laptop but then considered simply upgrading my hardware. After reading around online, I realized I needed to increase my memory.

This product is a great price and arrived very quickly - I ordered it on 11/28 and received it via UPS on 11/30. Impressive!! Although there were no written instructions with product, I found directions online and replaced old memory cards with no problems. Easy! My laptop is now back up to speed and I am incredibly happy. I would recommend this product to anyone, it is well worth it.
