A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected. 144-pin SODIMMs are commonly found in notebook computers. 144-pin SODIMMs are available in EDO, 66MHz SDRAM, PC100 SDRAM, and PC133 SDRAM. When upgrading, be sure to match the memory technology that is already in your system. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor tool.)

 "Cheap & Works Great" 2009-07-15

Got it cheap, took a few seconds to take the screw off the back of the laptop, slid the RAM in and I was done. I have a Gateway solo 1450, it has been a couple months now and no problems at all.

"A Low Cost Memory Module" 2009-04-25

After reading many reviews for the Brother HL-4070 CDW printer and seeing many suggested a memory upgrade, I added this low cost half-gig card to my cart to take advantage of Amazon's free shipping--that is important to me. Installation was simple and quick. I'm ready to ship large, complicated print jobs now.

"Works on old HP laptop" 2008-02-07
By Homemaker (Greenfield, WI United States)
We needed to upgrade the memory on HP laptop Pavilion N5445 so it would run new antivirus software under Windows XP. This 512 MB memory from Crucial gave us an additional 508MB RAM, which added to one of our old 128MB memory chips gave us enough RAM. (PNY's 512MB PC133 memory did NOT work. They claimed our computer was too old to work with their "new technology.") So, we are happy that Crucial makes memory that does work as it is supposed to. PNY is cheaper but didn't work, and in the future we will buy Crucial memory which does work. I also got much better customer service from Crucial than from PNY.

Crucial Technology 512MB 144-Pin PC133 133Mhz SODIMM SDRAM

I bought this memory upgrade for an old Dell C610 notebook that was barely chugging along on the OEM 256Mb RAM. The new 512 chip combined with one of the old 128 chips now gives the machine a respectable 640Mb, and the difference in performance is nothing short of amazing. This product is highly recommended as a cheap performance upgrade on older laptops.

Bad memory can cause anything from annoying error messages to complete system failures. Why risk it with cheap "mystery" memory? When you buy memory from Crucial, you're buying the same high-quality memory that leading computer manufacturers install in the systems they sell. In fact, because Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the world's largest DRAM manufacturers, chances are good that you have their memory in your system right now. While the "other guys" might claim to manufacture memory, they really just assemble modules out of chips made by someone else. Some don't have first-class assembly procedures, and some even use chips that failed to meet computer manufacturer's stringent testing requirements. Crucial memory goes through much more rigorous testing procedures than many other brands of memory. Some memory assemblers choose to accept a certain "defect rate" because it's cheaper to deal with returns than to test every part they sell. That may help their bottom line, but it's sure a pain in the neck if you're one of the customers who ends up with a bad module. That's why Crucial thoroughly tests EVERY module they sell and put their name only on the ones that meet their strict standards. You might expect memory this good to cost a lot more, but you'd be wrong. As an online memory upgrade provider selling directly from the manufacturer, Crucial memory is often available at lower prices than lower-quality modules.

Crucial 240-pin DIMMs are used in DDR3 memory for desktop computers. DDR3 is the latest generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data more quickly. A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other. Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix¿ and Ballistix Tracer¿ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.) Standard DDR3 240-pin DIMMs are currently available in DDR3 PC3-8500 SDRAM. Additional speeds will be added as the technology becomes available. To use DDR3 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR3-enabled chipset. This is because a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2 DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket. The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR3 DIMMS, 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

I bought this Lexar 2GB drive so my wife could transfer photos and music to and from her desktop computer. Everything works as it should. This has inherently excellent quality, and I especially prefer this "styling" - this has a full cover with a loop for a lanyard or to attach to keychain. Also, another nice feature is the LED indicator light when in use. I would definitely buy another one of these.

Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs are found in DDR3 memory. DDR3 — the next generation of memory — boasts an improved architecture allowing very fast data transmission. Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR3 PC3-12800 SDRAM (DDR3-1600). A Ballistix dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components attached to a black printed circuit board. Gold pins, found on the bottom of the DIMM, provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other. To use DDR3, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a chipset that supports DDR3 — which is a different technology than that of than its predecessors, DDR2 and DDR. DDR3 incorporates different sockets; they are not interchangeable or backward-compatible. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.) The number of black components on a Ballistix 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. These 240-pin DDR3 DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins, and each technology has the notch in a slightly different location on the module.

 "Tiny USB Drive" 2007-12-25
By J. E. Tomczyk (West Caldwell, Nuevo Jersey USA)
A USB drive you can fit in your wallet. Tiny, well made (won't bend easily), large capacity (1GB) and pretty cheap. The only drawback

(it's hard to unplug from a typical rear USB port when other cables are

around it) has been addressed with a hole in the end (form a hook on the end of a paperclip and retrieve it with that.) A brilliant piece of

engineering (for the money) that you shouldn't be without.

240-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR2 SDRAM memory for desktop computers. DDR2 is a leading-edge generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data very fast. Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix™ and Ballistix Tracer™ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.) Standard DDR2 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, and PC2-6400 SDRAM. To use DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR2 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket. The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins. The notch in a 240-pin DDR2 DIMM is closer toward the center of the module.
