And they include a manufucturer (Crucial) part number CT6432P335 which is a 256mb 100pin memory module that is used in some printers and other devices (but not in laptop or desktop computers). Clearly Amazon has a screwed up description for this item calling it a 512mb memory module and that has lead to disapointment. Only order it if you want a 256mb PC2700 100 Pin module.

Crucial 240-pin DIMMs are used in DDR3 memory for desktop computers. DDR3 is the latest generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data more quickly. A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. Additional speeds will be added as the technology becomes available. To use DDR3 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR3-enabled chipset. This is because a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2 DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket. The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. DDR3 ¿ the next generation of memory ¿ boasts an improved architecture allowing very fast data transmission. Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR3 PC3-12800 SDRAM (DDR3-1600). A Ballistix dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components attached to a black printed circuit board. Gold pins, found on the bottom of the DIMM, provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other. To use DDR3, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a chipset that supports DDR3 ¿ which is a different technology than that of than its predecessors, DDR2 and DDR. The number of black components on a Ballistix 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. I had never heard of a jump drive until a friend of mine who is a programmer told me I needed one, after receiving my gizmo I started putting my pictures on it, I had a large collection of my youngest daughter who had died last year, they all fit and then within 1 week of doing this my computer crashed and if I had not had the gizmo I would have lost them all, I have nothing but praise for this device.

This compact flash memory drive uses the now pretty much standard form for the USB plug in. With a little flashing red LED to tell you its working and when it's safe to remove. It does have a loose cap to protect the connector, but if you're even slightly careful, you shouldn't loose it.



And it works great, first time and every time. I liked it so well I ordered two more. They are all working fine.



My only gripe is how difficult it is to thread the lanyard through the small molded-in hole - I got all three of mine threaded but it needs a little redesign.



Get the Gizmo without the installed software. It's a little cheaper, has slightly more memory and no hassles.

I clocked write speed at about 14 MB/second on windows XP. That's nice. On the downside, it has this incredibly irritating red light that slowly blinks even when the drive is idle! I was ready to take a hammer to the thing until I put black tape around it to hide the light. Now I can't see the light flash when data is read written or read to the drive. Also, it's bulky enough to bump into other USB devices, so you may need to remove them. I did not have either of these problems with my old Memorex 512MB traveldrive, which was only slightly slower.

This drive is fast! I tested its reading and writing speeds and then calculated the speed file size / time in seconds. With my 2GHz Duo Core, XP Home, 2GB Corsair DDR2-667Mhz RAM, 7200RPM HDD machine, I got 13 MB/s writing (as they claimed) and 18.5 MB/s reading.



According to Microsoft's specs, this drive is fast enough for Windows Vista ReadyBoost though I've yet to try it since I'm still running Windows XP.
